The Tiny Home Village (THV) is a housing typology aimed at aiding individuals struggling with homelessness while simultaneously helping them build the social skills and habits necessary for the transition to permanent housing.
30 tiny homes surround a 2,500 square foot “Village House” which offers a large communal kitchen, laundry facilities, showers, meeting, and lounge space. A large, wrap around porch with outdoor seating also creates an 'eyes on the street' approach to security. The layout is efficient but also promotes communal living and equality with no house facing the 'back' of the Village House. Villagers will collectively maintain the shared community garden, guard shed, communal lawn, and picnic area. This encourages pride of ownership. Sustainable features were incorporated as learning tools with water collection cisterns, perimeter swales with native landscaping, ample views, natural daylighting, and prepped for a future solar array.
The Village is efficient, healthy, and educational. The tiny homes are designed to provide privacy and security for the residents. Furnished with a queen-sized bed, desk, and small outdoor patio, the homes are durable yet comfortable. By encouraging community engagement, independence, and pride of ownership, the Village hopes to set each villager on a path to future success with an elevated sense of confidence and valuable interpersonal skills.
