Social Enterprise Center is a project conceived by the non-profit organizations Partnership for Community Action (PCA) and Southwest Creations Collaborative (SCC) who both share a similar mission to empower the local community by creating opportunities in education and economic growth. Their vision of the Social Enterprise Center has been in the works for over five years as an iconic space for germinating ideas to elevate their local communities.
The South Valley was chosen specifically for the Social Enterprise Center for its deep-rooted history of culture, and it now stands as a hallmark to the ongoing successes of PCA and SCC. The new building provides a state-of-the-art facility for office and manufacturing while respecting the scale and context of the South Valley. In accordance with the lsleta Boulevard Sector Plan, Social Enterprise Center incorporates a pitched roof, deep portals, and shaded porches that are reminiscent of the northern New Mexico vernacular found in the South Valley. Using additive and subtractive principles throughout the steel and stucco building, key areas are carved out of the building resulting in a modern transformation of the local archetype of residential houses and agricultural metal buildings seen along lsleta Boulevard.
The building features natural daylight throughout and meets modern standards for high efficiency fixtures utilizing enhanced glazing, low-flow water fixtures, and LED lighting. Site features include swales and a large retention pond that capture rainwater on-site, and permeable parking areas to help reduce the amount of water runoff.
