Rodgers Hall, located in Las Vegas, NM at the center of the New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) campus, and designed by John Gaw Meem in 1934, functioned as as the campus library until 1966 when it was haphazardly remodeled into administrative offices. After decades of growth and expansion, Rodgers Hall found itself cluttered with numerous interior subdivisions, surface mounted systems, and drop ceilings.
Our 2019 renovation aimed to incorporate modern systems and materials while harmoniously showcasing the building's historic qualities. Both floors were completely gutted down to the original plaster. Rodgers Hall now houses administrative suites for the President, Vice President and Provost, a Board Room, Auxiliary Classroom, and a Heritage Room which celebrates the history of Highlands University. Modern interiors highlight John Gaw Meem’s original building details and Lloyd Moylan’s historic murals as key elements of place and identity in Rodgers Hall. Functional and spacious rooms allow for classes, meetings, clerical work, and create a focal point for artifacts of historical and cultural significance that will fill the Heritage Room among other spaces of Rodgers Hall.
